WORLD CUP BETTING: Reigning World Champions Italy contrived to draw with New Zealand and England were not much better on Friday night, both teams drifting.
Neither Italy nor England have actually lost yet but a 1-1 draw to minnows New Zealand and a pathetic 0-0 with Algeria respectively have set their odds to drift. England have gone from 7’s and 8’s to 11/1 with 888sport and 12/1 with Boylesports. Italy have similarly headed south, Paddy Power pushing them out to 22/1 from 14/1. Italian and England fans can be equally disappointed from their weekend’s actions but not all is over for them.
Germany are another team who suffered, going down 1-0 to Serbia. Germany, who were major steamers in the market after demolishing Australia, went back out to 10/1 from 7/1 with Totesport.
Brazil won 3-1 over the Ivory Coast and never looked particularly good, save a few moments of magic from Luis Fabiano. Despite this, Victor Chandler pushed them into 4/1 from 5/1, joint fav with Argentina – in fact Coral and Bet365 have Argentina at 9/2. 3rd fav Spain lie at 5/1, best priced 11/2 with Ladbrokes. Expect this to shorten to a 3 way co-fav should they convincingly beat Honduras today.
That defeat for the Ivory Coast means there tentative odds of 33/1 are busted; 150/1 with Skybet now as they cling on to qualification hopes.
Gonzo Higuain’s 7/4 to be top goalscorer has been lengthened to 5/2 at William Hill after Luis Fabiano bagged a brace. The Brazilian looked lively and, whilst Higuain is still the only player on 3 goals, the top goalscorer chart is very condensed.
