Euro F1 Could Be Ferrari’s Day In The Sun

F1 BETTING: Live on BBC 2: Sun 12.00: F1 goes to Valencia for the Euro GP and all fingers are crossed for a better spectacle than the horrible 2008 procession. Hamilton heads in as fav ahead of Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton is 11/4 with Sportingbet to make it 3 back-to-back wins in the F1 calendar and make a real statement of intent for the Championship.

Valencia is the host track for this weekend’s GP, the 9th of the season, and still has the air of disappointment of the 2008 race hanging over it. 2 years ago was a horrible procession of qualifying order for 1 hour until Massa won. This year, however, should be a whole different story as dominant Red Bulls are being usurped by McClarens and rumours of Ferrari improvement are rife.

Sebastien Vettel, who seems to have faded badly of late amidst team problems and crashes, still holds on to 2nd fav at 7/2 with 888sport which is probably too optimistic for the German. His team mate Mark Webber should fair better at Valencia and is 6/1 at Betfred to win, whilst Blue Square offer 11/8 for the Australian to obtain a podium spot, a lot more realistic for him here.

This race will be about Ferrari vs McClaren. Button and Hamilton vs Alonso and Massa. That is a top quality match up and even Paddy Lowe of McClaren has expressed concern about the new exhaust improvements on the Ferrari car giving it some extra juice. Therefore Fernando Alonso will be the weekend’s danger man. Better car, home turf, local hero and getting into some nice rhythm at Montreal last week, his 4/1 at Totesport for race winner is perhaps not good value and is not as tempting as the 4/5 for a medal position with Skybet.

Qualifying may be very hard to call but perhaps Vettel can be eliminated. One of the McClaren boys can do it and the thoughts are Hamilton is in the mood for more. Hamilton is 5/2 with Coral for pole and Button 10/1 at Blue Square. Alonso will perhaps be left with a little bit to do but the car improvements can help him there.

Other bets should look to Robert Kubica who did so well on the streets of Monaco, his even money to be in the top 6 with bet365 seems like a great shout. Also, Vitaly Petrov knows the circuit well and won here at Valencia in the GP2 class. Petrov is 6/4 with Ladbrokes to obtain a top 10 finish and after a few 11th to 13th finishes (and one 7th), he can push on with his added course knowledge for a top 10 berth.
