TENNIS BETTING: Rafael Nadal powered to Wimbledon victory against Thomas Berdych and will now be eyeing up the US Open in a bid to land a complete Grand Slam of tennis.
Andy Murray gave a good account of himself at Wimbledon this year; falling at the semi final to Rafa Nadal is never a shameful thing.
Murray has already been priced up at 5/1 to win Wimbledon in 2011 and Nadal short priced 7/4 fav to defend, both at Ladbrokes.
Roger Federer relinquishes favouratism as he gets the 7/2 mark against him from Totesport after suffering a somewhat shock defeat in the semi to Thomas Berdych.
After a dominant display in the Ladies competition, Serena Williams is 9/4 with Bet365 to defend her Wimbledon title, her sister Venus 6/1, at 888sport, comes next in the market.
Wimbledon 2011 is all very far in the future and a bit closer to now is the US Open, due to start on August 30th. Federer is still fav, 11/4 at Coral, to regain his title which he won for 5 years in a row, only to see it taken from him by Juan Martn Del Potro in 2009. Rafa Nadal is 7/2 at Skybet to triumph, which would also see him complete a grand slam (wining all ‘major’ events). Nadal would be only the 7th man in history to win all 4 majors and he would have the added incentive of attempting to hold all 4 at once should he win the Australian Open in January 2011 (3/1 to win Australian Open, Stan James).
At the age of 24, Nadal has already won 8 Open events, compared to Federer’s current haul of 16. Ladbrokes offer 16/1 that Nadal will eventually secure more majors than Federer. 2010 could be a real tipping point for Nadal and if he can hold all 4 majors at once come January 2011, could kick on to become one of the greatest tennis players ever.
