FOOTBALL BETTING: Spain have lifted the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and already bookies are turning their gaze to Brazil 2014. Anyone suffering withdrawl symptoms can get involved!
One World Cup finishes and 12 hours later, odds are up for the next one.
Betting on the World Cup this far in advance might reveal a few nuggets of value though as punters can predict shifts in national football sides that could drastically alter the odds come 2014.
Brazil, the hosts, are obvious favs. Victor Chandler kick things off with 4/1 and it’s very difficult to see the Brazilian team messing up on home turf. The style they employ will be hard to predict; they said this year’s more measured approach was a direct reaction to not winning the cup in 2006 but surely the home fans will deplore such a lack of samba in their home tournament.
Spain defend their crown at 7/1 with Stan James while Brazil’s neighbours Argentina are the 2nd fav at 6/1 with William Hill, perhaps a nod to the quality and wealth of talent that might be harnessed by a top coach.
England get the respect they deserve with a 20/1 nod from Stan James. 2014 may be too soon for fresh England players to come through and a 2018 bid, coupled with youth investment, may be a more likely target. Exciting Germany are 12/1 at Skybet and if their team matures and keeps the talent levels up, that could be a good price.
The ageing and stagnating Italians join England on 20/1 (Victor Chandler) while finalists Netherlands are 14/1 at Bwin.
Belguim at 500/1(Bwin) are far too long, the small nation has a strong youth element at the moment that will mature into a very compact and threatening team (you heard it here first!!)
