Super League Round 22 Preview

RUGBY LEAGUE BETTING: Live on Skysports 1: Fri 19.30: Live Super League action on Friday night as high-flying Wigan entertain 2nd placed Warrington. Compare Super League odds.

Super League leaders Wigan are odds-on at 8/15 with Stan James to get the better of second placed Warrington this weekend and they look well placed to overcome the Wolves at the DW Stadium. The Warriors warmed up last Friday, expending little energy as they brushed aside Salford while their opponents also racked up a big score but, crucially, conceded a substantial total for the third match in four.

A leaky defence spells trouble against the league’s most potent attack and Michael Maguire’s troops, now 888Sport’s 7/4 favourites for Grand Final glory, are a steal at even money to cover a six-point start in bet365’s handicap betting.

Leeds were well beaten at Hull KR last week but back on home soil they can return to winning ways by seeing off Huddersfield Giants and a victory for the Rhinos by more than ten (10/11, Totesport) looks on the cards at Headingley.

On Saturday, Catalans can build on last weekend’s victory at St Helens by seeing off Crusaders in Perpignan. The Dragons are 2/7 courtesy of William Hill to register a fifth win of the campaign and they should do just that; nevertheless in the handicaps, the dozen points given to the Welsh outfit by Skybet at 10/11 looks a little on the high side.

Also 2/7 for a home win, this time at Betfred, are Bradford, who entertain Salford. The Bulls have parted company with Steve McNamara and announced that Saints’ coach Mick Potter will take over in 2011 and buoyed by that news they should snap an eight-match losing sequence. However, like Catalans they don’t look strong enough to be a banker at 10/11 in Victor Chandler’s handicaps, where they give away ten points.

At Knowsley Road, St Helens are worthy favourites to defeat Harlequins, despite losing at home to Catalans last Friday but aided by a chunky 18-point cushion and fresh from a 35-18 triumph against Bradford, the visitors may be the better pick in the handicaps where Stan James post 10/11 against Brain McDermott’s men.

Finally, there’s little to separate Castleford and Wakefield as the West Yorkshire pair lock horns at the Jungle but with their solid home form, it’s the Tigers that have the edge. They’re 4/7 with Paddy Power to send the Wildcats home empty-handed and 10/11 (Ladbrokes) to prevail by more than four points.
