GOLF BETTING: Live On BBC 2 & Red Button: Thu from 09:00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Open Championship from St Andrews and flags up his best bets for the tournament.
Tiger Woods, a winner of the St Andrews Open in 2000 and 2005, is top price 7/1 for a unique 3rd Old Course Open this week with William Hill and looks a great each way bet to me as I expect Tiger to be in the mix come Sunday night.
Lee Westwood is 22/1 with Stan James and they may regret knocking him out due to his well documented muscle injury; Westwood has an outstanding chance this week and must be included in your porfolio. Justin Rose can be backed at 28/1 (Extrabet) and is in the form of his life having won twice on PGA Tour in last month. Rose has immense talent and looks a certain future Open Champion and being paired with Tiger in the first two rounds is a big advantage for the popular Englishman.
If the wind blows as hard as expected, US Open Champ Graeme McDowell is a huge price at 33/1 with Ladbrokes to repeat Tigers feat in 2000 and win at Pebble Beach and then St Andrews. Of the bigger prices, Dustin Johnson at 95/1 (Paddy Power) is the value as lengh off the tee is a huge advantage and although he blew up badly in 4th Round of US Open, he was a worthy leader after 54 holes and is the big value outsider who looks over the odds to me.
Rose and Westwood offer a great chance of an English Winner, while Tiger is still the man to beat and Dustin Johnson the big price outsider in what promises to be a great Open at The Old Course.
