Some golfers were up and driving from tee 1 before most of us had eaten our cornflakes; Day 2 of The Open is well and truly under way.
The rain is teaming down but that isn’t stopping South African Louis Oosthuizen from joining McIlroy on -9, he is -2 for the day after 6 holes and 16/1 with Skybet for the tournament. Surely if he is this solid for 2 whole rounds, he may stand a chance of being a shock outside winner.
Brad Dredge is +1 through 3, falling back to -5, 66/1 with Ladbrokes now. Vijay Singh is making quiet progress, an early birdie pushes him to -5 and 40/1 at Bet365.

Some real movers this morning, Oosthuizen is now clear 1st at -10, 14/1 at Bet365 for The Open and 5/2 with Stan James to lead at the end of the day.
Paul Casey has stormed to -6 after hitting -3 from the first 3 holes, the Englishman is 16/1 at Ladbrokes to make it a British win. Barnes and Calcavecchia have also started well, moving to -7 and -6 respectively. The weather doesn’t seem to be putting anyone off, aside from maybe Sandy Lyle, the only man over +1 for the day so far.
Lee Westwood is par through the first 3, moved in slightly to 8/1 at Coral but he’s 5 shots off the lead still.

Oosthuizen is lenthening his lead, now -11 (-4 from 12 holes), Sportingbet actually offering a slightly longer 16/1.
Ricky Barnes is making a good challenge, -4 for the day, -8 overall, 20/1 with Coral. Phil Mickelson is -1 for the day, par overall, and must surely have the dreaded cut lurking in his mind as par only gets you tied for 79th at the moment. With many players to come, surely players must get decent under-par scores today to avoid the cut.

Barnes goes joint 2nd at -9, the American now 16/1 with Paddy Power. Paul Casey, a shot further back, is going well on -5 for the day and can be backed at 10/1 with Coral. Retief Goosen has snuck up the ladder, his -2 from the front nine takes him to -5 and Skybet retain a 40/1 about him.
Miguel Angel Jimenez has shot out of the traps, -5 on the opening 9 to take him to -5 overall, his odds plunging to 66/1 with Skybet.
Lee Westwood remains at -6 for now.

Oosthuizen is in the clubhouse at -12, a lead of 3 shots over nearest competitor Rory McIlroy and he is generally 10/1 (Bet365) or lower.
The projected cut is set at -1. Those on par wont mnake it through at this rate which leaves the following with work to do in the 2nd round: Luke Donald, Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Padraig Harrington and Fran Molinari.

Bradely Dredge fell away and is -2 in the clubhouse, 250/1 with Paddy Power. In similar fashion, Ricky Barnes has let his round get away from him, dropping 4 shots in the final few holes. Barnes is still -5 though, 80/1 at Totesport.
Barring a miracle, Luke Donald’s Open looks to be over, he is +1 in the clubhouse, cut still projected at -1.
Miguel Angel Jimenez creeps up to -4, getting into contention, but still has some work to do.
Ryan Moore sets off soon, McIlroy will be on tee 1 at 13.31.

Louis Oosthuizen’s lead is yet to be challenged firmly, Casey, Barnes and others have come close but have been scuppered by the last few holes on the back 9. Oosthuizen’s odds have contracted dramatically to 6/1 with Sportingbet.
Paul Casey triple bogeyed the 17th to put a blot on his round but an 18th hole birdie gets him into the clubhouse on -6; he is 28/1 at Betfred now.
Angel Jimenez finishes a great round to record a 67 (equal best of the day) to put him on -5. Westwood shot a 71 to leave him on -6 and Westwood has only shot 1 single bogey in 2 rounds, a model of consistency. If he can keep it up, the 12/1 at Ladbrokes will tumble.
Daly is par through 4, retaining joint 4th on -6.

McIlroy is par through the first 3 and nobody in these latter stages, save Jimenez, can post a very low score. McIlroy slips a little to 10/3 with Bet365.
The wind appears to have picked up dramatically and perhaps the South African Oosthuizen will, after all, remain top of the leaderboard. Plenty more golfers to go yet.

PLAY IS SUSPENDED
The wind has really got up now and the golf balls are moving about on the greens and the stewards agree this is not acceptable for The Open. Tees mark the balls and play is suspended for now.
That suspension sees Oosthuizen’s odds come right in to 5/1 at Betfred as low scores look very unlikely today. Funny old game.

Rory McIlroy’s dropped shot at the fourth means Oosthuizen has a four shot lead and his odds have been cut again; Ladbrokes‘ 3/1 the best available. Overnight leader McIlroy meanwhile is out to 5/1 at Paddy Power.

Bogeys at the opening two holes have nudged Tiger Woods’ odds out to 10/1 at Stan James, with the world number one now fourth favourite.
Playing partner Justin Rose is +1 after three holes and is also on the drift; he’s out to 80/1 with bet365.

Rory McIlroy has now dropped two shots and Victor Chandler have nudged the first round leader out to 6/1.
Earlier rounds are now starting to look pretty solid and indeed US Champions Graeme McDowell, who is currently on -5 having carded a more than respectable 68 today, is in to a tasty 22/1 with Sportingbet.
Similarly, there’s been steady support for Lee Westwood throughout the afternoon and at Betfred he’s now in to 13/2.
Alongside Westwood on -6 is Paul Casey, whose odds have been clipped to 11/1 by Skybet while one shot ahead of that pair is Mark Calcavecchia, currently in second place and available at 50/1 (Totesport).
