F1 BETTING: Live on BBC1: Sun 12.45: Hockenheim welcomes 6 German drivers this weekend including the return of national hero, Michael Schumacher. McClaren would love to crash the party.
A second place finish for Lewis Hamilton in the British Grand Prix means the McLaren man remains favourite for the World Drivers Championship at 8/5 with Jaxx.com, ahead of Sebastian Vettel (5/2, Partybets). Winner at Silverstone, Red Bull’s Mark Webber, has been cut to 9/2 by Betdaq to clinch top spot and Jenson Button is next in the betting; chalked up by Paddy Power at 17/2. It’s therefore a two-horse race in terms of the Constructors Championship, with McLaren, at 10/11 (Paddy Power), set to pip rivals Red Bull (evens, Betfred).
The Championship moves to Germany this week and on home soil, Sebastian Vettel is well fancied at 2/1 with 888Sport to delight the supporters in attendance at Hockenheim by securing a crucial victory. Buoyed his British GP success, Australian Mark Webber is perhaps an eye catching wager at 5/2 with Totesport but this weekend’s danger lies with Lewis Hamilton, who can extend his lead at the top of the standings with a win, rated as a 9/2 shot by Stan James.
For the cautious, Hamilton should manage another podium finish, an outcome William Hill generously chalk up at 8/11 while Pole Position looks set to go to one of the Red Bull drivers, given that there car is the fastest. Vettel is 5/4 (Ladbrokes) to start from first place on the grid and Webber is 9/4 at bet365 to be the quickest qualifier.
German fans at Hockenheim will be keen for Michael Schumacher to find some of his old best but recent flat performances have done nothing to suggest he will. Schumacher is a pretty hideous 66/1 to win the race (Skybet) and 2/1 with Ladbrokes to make the top 6. Looking at the grid, there are numerous drivers you could put before the 7-time World Champion, making the top 10 should be his priority – an unprofitable 4/11 at Coral.
There is a great German representation in F1 this year, 6 drivers in all, 4 of whom occupy the top 10 in the standings. Nico Rosberg has a great chance of making the top 6 after a great drive at Silverstone, something Blue Square make 1/1. Rosberg drives a Mercedes, along with Schumacher, and both will be roared on by the enthusiastic home crowd.
This weekend promises to be passionate but formulaic. It’s Red Bull v McClaren. Button, Hamilton, Vettel and Webber all fighting for the podium. The track does not suit Red Bull as well as others have (Turkey, for example), the corners are slower for a start, but that did not hold them back at Monaco. The 8/11 (Coral) about a Red Bull win is reasonable but, with the help of a re-vamped blown diffuser, a McClaren can spoil the party at Hockenheim and win the race at a chunky 11/4 with Sportingbet.
