F1 BETTING: Ferrari secured a one-two finish at the German GP with Fernando Alonso picking up maximum points in 1st after it appeared Massa was instructed to let him though.
Alonso now sits as a 10/3 chance with Skybet for the Drivers Championship after moving to within 34 points of ladder leader Lewis Hamilton. The Spaniard’s victory came after a radio instruction appeared to inform race leader Felipe Massa that his team-mate Alonso was faster than him. Massa promptly slowed and allowed Alonso to pass who went on to take maximum points.
Many in the sport are not happy that Alonso can be gifted max points and effectively cut the gap on McClaren men Hamilton and Button and the laws and rules on such team instructions will now come under intense scrutiny.
As it is though, Hamilton is joint fav for the title at 5/2 with Sportingbet and is matched by Vettel, who is also 5/2 (Ladbrokes). Vettel secured a podium in his home country to fall into line with Webber, both now on 136 points – 7 points behind Button and 21 from Hamilton. Mark Webber cam home in 6th after engine trouble and is a tasty 7/1 with Coral to win overall, which seems large considering he has won more races than any other driver in the Championships.
The Constructors Championship continues to provide a true neck and neck spectacle, McClaren and Red Bull far ahead of Ferrair in 3rd. Bet365 offer 11/10 on Red Bull while Blue Square say 5/4 about McClaren. The British team lead on 300 points while the Red Bulls are on 272 and the German GP did nothing to offer any clues as they picked up 22 and 23 points respectively.
