TENNIS BETTING: Andy Roddick heads the betting for the Legg Mason Classic in Washington, 7/2 with Boylesports, while the women compete in the San Diego Open.
Men’s Tour:
The Legg Mason in Washington attracts some top-10 names, amongst whom Thomas Berdych is top seed. Berdych is 2nd in the betting at 4/1 (Paddy Power), behind Roddick, who himself is 7/2 (Boylesports).
This is Berdych’s first competitive action since reaching the Wimbledon final as he begins warming up for the US Open in less than a month and it may be a bit soon to expect a victory from him. Roddick has the form; wins in this competition at this ground in 2001, 2005 and 2007 and a finals appearance last year but his recent performace in Atlanta was certainly nothing to write home about.
Sam Querrey continues his busy schedule and heads straight to the Legg Mason as a 18/1 chance with Ladbrokes after beating Andy Murray to retain the LA Tennis Open yesterday. Querrey has a tough draw though, potentially meeting Hewitt and then Cilic/Fish before the final.
Fish could be a man to watch in that half, his recent Newport and Atlanta titles defy his 20/1 quote at Betfred and will be a match for most at this event on his form. He is definitely worth each way consideration.
Women’s Tour:
The Ladies take to San Diego where Azarenka was top of the betting, 5/1 at Victor Chandler, but has pulled out of the event. The Stanford Classic winner is injured and leaves top-seed Jankovic as 6/1 Paddy Power fav.
Jankovic makes her debut in San Diego but one to watch could be Zvonareva at 7/1 with Coral. Zvonareva must watch out for Wickmayer in her quarter (25/1 Betfred) but aside from thatcould go all the way.
