FOOTBALL BETTING: Live on Skysports 3: Tue 19.30: Round 1 of the Carling Cup kicks off in earnest on Tuesday and the live match sees Middlesbrough go away to Chesterfield of League 2.
Middlesbrough were well beaten in their Championship opener against Ipswich at the weekend but they look set to bounce back in the Carling Cup as they head to the new B2net Stadium to face Chesterfield.
Boro are even money with William Hill to see off the League Two outfit, Ladbrokes’ 3/1 outsiders, and with boss Gordon Strachan likely to be demanding a response from his players after Saturday’s reverse, a narrow away win, perhaps by a one-goal margin (11/4, Paddy Power), looks on the cards.
Other Championship sides that look primed for victory include Nottingham Forest, who are evens with Betdaq to see off Bradford, Doncaster (4/9, Betfred) who entertain Accrington and Barnsley; a generous 8/11 courtesy of bet365 to overcome Rochdale at Oakwell while Preston and Bristol City can both justify their even money favouritism with Stan James and Ladbrokes respectively as they head to Stockport and Southend.
However, that’s not to say that there are no potential upsets during Tuesday’s hectic programme. Hereford appear overprice at 15/8 (Totesport) to send Colchester packing at Edgar Street, Ladbrokes’ 7/2 for Leyton Orient to edge out Swindon looks a touch high while Aldershot (11/4, 888Sport) look in with a shout at home to Championship opposition in the shape of Watford.
Buoyed by their opening day success at Swindon meanwhile, Brighton catch the eye at 6/4 to beat a Northampton team hammered at Torquay at the weekend.
