TENNIS BETTING: The Rogers Cup in Toronto is the biggest ATP event since Wimbledon and marks the beginning of a 3 week warm up for the US Open; Nadal is 5/2 fav with Bet365.
Mens:
The Rogers Cup has attracted a full strength field and with only 3 weeks until the US Open starts, its clear that everybody has decided the Toronto based tournament is a good starting point to begin preparations.
Once again, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer dominate the market, they are 5/2 (Bet365) and 4/1 (Skybet) respectively. Nadal won this particular tournament in 2008 and the Spaniard will be very keen to atone for his quarter final loss in 2009 to Juan Martin del Potro. He has Andy Murray (8/1 at Paddy Power) in his half of the draw, the defending champion, but Nadal should make the final. Federer meanwhile is a master of the hard court tour in North America and shares his half of the draw with Novak Djokovic; the Serb is 8/1 at Bwin to win and has been granted 2nd seed.
Thomas Berdych will again be one to watch and at 20/1 with Victor Chandler, has to be considered. Unfortunately he has Federer is his quarter of the draw but come the quarter finals stage, Berdych could be ready to repeat the quarter final win over Federer that he pulled off at Wimbledon, possibly setting up a repeat semi against Djokovic.
In Murray’s quarter, Soderling is the most dangerous man and at 14/1 for the title (Ladbrokes), looks a good each way shot, especially if he reaches the semi’s.
Women’s:
The Western and Southern Financial Group Womens Open in Cincinnati has not quite attracted a full strength field, but it’s not far off.
Kim Clijsters is 4/1 market leader with Paddy Power and looks good for the semi’s at least, the out of form Zvonareva, 40/1 at Bet365, her main opposition. Top seed Jelena Jankovic would be Clijster’s semi opponent, the world numer 2 an unfancied 20/1 at Stan James; surely there is opportunity to back both and watch them meet at the semi stage.
On the other side, Dementieva is 18/1 at Victor Chandler and Caroline Wozniacki is 10/1 at Boylesports. The player to watch here is Li Na. The Chinese world number 11 is 8th seed and 28/1 at Coral and is a consistently good performer. She lost out in the semi at Copenhagen recently when she should have won and will look to make amends this week in Ohio.
