Golf Betting: Live on Skysports 3: Thu 19.00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s USPGA Championship at Whistling Straits and flags up his best bets for the tournament.
Tiger Woods heads into the final Major of 2010 Golf season with his game in a mess and he has been replaced as favouite by Phil Mickleson, who also is out of touch but could be new number one by end of the week.
The 2010 PGA is the most open Major in years with Mickleson heading the betting at 14/1 (Stan James) with plenty of firms offering 16/1 Tiger (Paddy Power, Coral); the biggest price he has beeen for a mojor since his first Masters triumph in 1997.
Rory Mcllroy is available at 18/1 with Totesport while Padraig Harrington, the 1998 Champion, is 20/1 at Victor Chandler. This is the final qualifying event for US Ryder Cup Team so there are likely to be plenty of subplots this week. It is also a big week but not the last for Europeans chasing a place in Monty’s team at Celtic Manor in October.
I like the chances of Jeff Overton at 60/1 (William Hill) this week – he rates a tremendous each way bet with several firms offering 1/4 odds on six places this week while Sean O’Hair, available at 40/1, is also decent each way value.
Louis Oosthuzien ran away with Open Championship last month prompting many to suggest it was a fluke. I disagree with them and cannot understand why you can get 70/1 with Totesport; this looks well over the odds after he produced a superb 65 closing round at Firestone on Sunday to show he is in top nick.
Padraig Harrington at 8/1 and Ross Fisher at a generous 16/1 with Paddy Power are the two i would like to be on in the Top European Market. Fisher beat Harrington to win Irish Open and is in great form while Harrington saves his best for The Majors.
Recommended Bets:
Jeff Overton 60/1 (Paddy Power, William Hill)
Sean O’Hair 40/1 (Coral, Victor Chandler)
Louis Oosterhuzien 70/1 (Totesport)
– all each way on Outright.
Padraig Harrington 8/1 (Sportingbet) and Ross Fisher 16/1 (Betdaq) each way on Top European Market.
