FOOTBALL BETTING: Live on Skysports 1: Sun 13.15: Nottingham Forest host Leeds in the Championship on Sunday, both teams desparate for a return to the big time after years in the shadows.
Former Premiership heavyweights Nottingham Forest and Leeds are two sides that have fallen on harder times in recent seasons but as they prepare to lock horns at Championship level, there’s a sense that both clubs are now on the up and hoping to be back in the top flight sooner rather than later.
Having finished third last season, Forest would appear to be closer to that goal and aided by home advantage they’re Stan James’ 5/6 favourites to see off the newly-promoted Whites (18/5, Totesport) at the City Ground.
However, while they should collect all three points, they’re plenty short enough at a shade of odds-on and with two defeats under their belt in the space of a week, they simply don’t convince. Better value is Jaxx.com’s 7/10 for the contest to yield fewer than 2.5 goals as both teams, it could be argued, are short of a little cutting edge at present.
Elsewhere, Middlesbrough are 2/1 (bet365) to bounce back from their defeat against Ipswich by landing three points at Leicester, but Ladbrokes’ 23/10 for the spoils to be shared is arguably the best bet at the Walkers Stadium, where in-form DJ Campbell is 21/10 (Paddy Power) to get on the scoresheet .
Hull, at 2/1 with Betdaq, can bring Millwall back down to earth at the New Den and QPR boss Neil Warnock can get one over on his former club Sheffield United, by escaping Bramall Lane with a maximum haul; a result Victor Chandler offer at 23/10. Barnsley meanwhile, despite a 4-0 reverse last weekend and a Carling Cup loss on Tuesday, hold modest appeal at 6/4 (Partybets) to emerge triumphant against Crystal Palace.
