F1 Betting: Live on BBC1: Sun 12.45: F1 returns at the Belgian GP after a 4 week gap, have McClaren shaken the Hungary Blues or will Red Bull simply power on through to another maximum?
4 weeks have passed since the Hungarian GP and the Red Bull turnover of McLaren but how much can have possibly changed?
The long, expansive Spa will once again play into the hands of Red Bull and Seb Vettel is 5/2 fav with Sportingbet to win the race. Fernando Alonso, very much in form, comes in as 2nd fav at 3/1 with Skybet and Mark Webber, behind the wheel of the other RB6, is 3rd fav at 9/2 (888sport).
It remains unknown what changes each team will have made over the 4 week break but there is enough evidence to suggest that Red Bull will simply be too powerful on a very open track such as this. One sticking point might be the FIA’s review on Red Bull’s front wing, which was touted as the reason the RB6 had so much extra speed, and if any changes are enforced there, the race bewteen Ferrari and Red Bull could be a lot closer. The podium however, should be the very 3 who top the betting at present. Alonso, curiously, has never won at Spa.
McClaren came badly unstuck in Hungary and Lewis Hamilton is their best chance, 5/1 with Bet365 to get the win. Even the 5/4 with Coral to get on the podium is looking a little unlikely and there certainly would be no point in backing Jenson Button, who is 14/1 with Stan James to win.
Sauber are looking better over courses such as Spa and Kobayashi will relish the long corners. The Japanese driver is 9/4 with Bet365 to make the top 10, as is his teammate Pedro de la Rosa. Expect to see one of the 2 in the points.
It will be Red Bull’s weekend yet again, with McClaren chasing shadows but one eye must be cast on the FIA’s decision on that RB front wing and what it could do to the odds.
