Football Betting: League 2 kicks off on Friday night, Lincoln travelling to Accrington, while on Saturday, attention falls on 3rd placed Port Vale to collect all the points at Macclesfield.
League Two leaders Torquay clung on to top spot despite a goalless encounter at home to Accrington last time out and the Gulls may have to settle for a point again this week as they head to face a Stevenage side who have drawn two out of three on their own patch.
Ladbrokes post 5/2 against a stalemate in that one but we’ve had our fingers burnt already this season betting against a Torquay victory and so it might be prudent to focus attention on third-placed Port Vale instead. The high-flying Valiants are 5/4 with Partybets to collect three points at Macclesfield and although the Silkmen increased their stock with a 2-1 triumph at Wycombe, they have struggled at home while Micky Adams’ troops have a hundred percent record on the road.
Neither Rotherham (7/5, Betdaq) or Barnet (21/10, William Hill) convince enough to warrant backing as they face-off at Underhill, especially as the Millers have drawn a blank in two of their three away games. However, only once when the Millers have scored this term, has striker Adam Le Fondre’s name not appeared on the scoresheet and at 6/5 courtesy of Paddy Power, he’s a great shout to continue his good run at leaky Barnet.
Admittedly, the Bees defensive record at home is solid compared to that on the road and the Millers have struggled for goals on their travels but at this level, Le Fondre has the class to override those statistics.
Chesterfield and Cheltenham are separated by only two places but the latter are winless on the road and the Spireites have won all three on their own so it’s the hosts, Victor Chandler’s 5/6 favourites, that can claim the spoils as the pair meet in Derbyshire.
The table meanwhile, suggests that Shrewsbury (evens, 888Sport) will ease past Northampton but the Cobblers Johnstone’s Paints Trophy loss at Hartlepool is their only defeat in any competition since the opening day and Ian Sampson’s resilient side can subsequently emerge with something at the New Meadow. Northampton are a whopping 10/3 with Ladbrokes to come out on top and 5/2 (bet365) to snare a point but the safety first approach of backing the Cobblers in the ‘Draw No Bet’ market looks the best way to go.
