Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Solstice Son in the Uttoxeter 15:20 and Get Back In Line in the Stratford 15:40. Compare odds and bet.
With Aintree’s Grand National meeting just five days away and the season beginning to draw to a close, it’s a fairly quiet Saturday from a National Hunt perspective, but Anthony Honeyball’s Solstice Son (3:20) is certainly at the top of his game at present and can complete the four-timer at Uttoxeter.
The five-year-old has gone up a stone since his most recent victory at Chepstow, where he was completing a hat-trick in the space of 10 days, having scored at Plumpton and Fontwell earlier in the month.
Given how he jumped the final flight last time, there looked to be plenty left in the tank and he can take the step up in class in his stride.
In the same event, I wouldn’t be surprised to see either Jojabean or Duke Of Monmouth go well at much bigger odds – trading at 14/1 and 16/1, respectively.
At Stratford Red Seventy looks to back up his recent Wincanton success in the 2m handicap hurdle, but Get Back In Line (3:40) remains a horse of some potential and is taken to get off the mark for the season.
Jonjo O’Neill’s Catterick winner (won a decent race for that track last February) unseated Richie McLernon in the Gerry Feilden in November, before travelling well for a long way in a decent contest at Ascot in January.
The drop in trip and class along with the better ground should ensure the six-year-old puts up an improved effort and, though the track might be a little on the sharp side, the Milan gelding could well be a class above today’s rivals.
