Paul Ferguson has two selections from Doncaster for us on Wednesday, Stellar Nation at 1.45, and Pearl Castle in the 2.50. Compare odds and bet.
Doncaster stages a cracking card on Wednesday and the action on the Town Moor gets underway with a fairly strong EBF National Hunt Novices’ Hurdle.
Several of these have shown decent form in bumpers, but Stellar Notion (1:45) followed up his Bangor bumper success with a smooth victory on his debut over hurdles at Newcastle last month and Tom George’s six-year-old looked a youngster to keep on the right side of.
The son of Presenting is burdened with a 6lb penalty today, which makes life tougher, but the Supreme/Neptune entrant is taken to maintain his 100% record under rules – he had earlier finished runner-up in his sole point-to-point, before joining current connections for £140,000.
John Quinn’s Pearl Castle (2:50) looked an exciting juvenile when scoring over course-and-distance last month and the Montjeu gelding should be able to follow up under his 7lb penalty.
Having finished third in soft ground at Wetherby on debut, he improved for meeting better ground here last time, so would clearly appreciated a dry day. Twice a winner on the Flat for Andrew Balding, he runs here instead of Saturday’s Grade 2 Adonis Hurdle and he should book his ticket to Cheltenham (entered in the Triumph and the Supreme) this afternoon.
Wednesday’s selections:
1:45 Doncaster: Stellar Notion; 10/11 bet365
2:50 Doncaster: Pearl Castle; 8/15 bet365
