All eyes will be on Kempton on Sunday, when Champion Hurdle hopeful My Tent Or Yours is the star attraction on the ‘jumpers bumper’ card. Fans of Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old, of which I am one, will be hoping he comes through this prep with the minimum of fuss.
Henderson could be in for a good afternoon, as he saddles a nice type in the opener and Stand To Reason should also cope with conditions, given his Flat speed. However, these events are rarely appeal from a punting perspective.
Over in Ireland, 4m National Hunt Chase favourite Foxrock goes in the Ten Up Novice Chase, in which My Murphy can be expected to give him a race. This should be a race worth watching with the remainder of the season in mind.
That can also be said of the Flyingbolt Novice Chase, for which Dessie Hughes brings the smart Bright New Dawn back in trip. He is a horse I have long been a fan of and one that has always threatened to develop in to a high-class chaser. But, he’s not really given me the impression a drop in trip would suit, though his trainer believes he could be an Arkle contender if coming through today’s assignment.
At the prices (7-4 with Coral overnight) I’m prepared to take him on with Mallowney (3:10) who was running a big race when falling in the Irish Arkle last time and is more at home over this trip.
The son of Oscar had earlier beaten the useful Ned Buntline (as Bright New Dawn had over timber last term, incidentally) at Naas and, if Andrew McNamara’s mount is none the worse for his recent tumble, he could lower the market leader’s colours.
