Live on Sky Sports 1: Weds 19.45: Man Utd should get past Sunderland in the Capital One Cup but they’re 13/2 (bet365) to require extra-time.
Manchester United are already out of the FA Cup and any slim hopes they had of retaining the Premier League title were extinguished at Chelsea on Sunday so David Moyes will be keen to lift the Capital One Cup as he seeks to salvage something from a tough first season at Old Trafford.
Of course United remain in the Champions League but realistically, their only hope of collecting silverware this term is in the League Cup and Moyes will subsequently be demanding a big performance from his players as they seek to overturn a 2-1 deficit in the semi-final second leg against Sunderland.
As they enjoy home advantage, United are Betfred’s 4/11 favourites while Paddy Power make them 4/9 to qualify for the final and although Sunderland arrive with a lead you have to fancy the hosts to set up a final against their neighbours Man City.
Nevertheless, as Gus Poyet’s men are likely to try and frustrate their opponents, a tight affair could be on the cards and a case can be made for a Manchester United victory by a one-goal margin at 29/10 (Ladbrokes).
That would send the tie to extra-time and it’s for punters willing to take a risk, there’s value in backing the hosts at 13/2 with bet365 to eventually win the tie in that additional half-hour.
