The Australian Open gets under way on Monday and bookies consider it a two-horse race between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic has won the tournament in each of the last three years and he’s 17/20 at Winner.com to make it four victories on the spin at the Rod Laver Arena, where Nadal is 10/3 (Stan James) to add to his solitary 2009 triumph.
Wimbledon champion Andy Murray is next in the betting at 9/1 via Skybet but the Scot has played only one ATP tournament since last September and lost in the second round of the Qatar Open after returning from a back operation so he could be a touch rusty in Melbourne.
Boylesports’ 14/1 chance Juan Martin del Potro can’t be ruled out and Roger Federer (20/1, Betfred) remains a threat but it’s difficult to see past the first two in the betting and of those two it’s in-form Nadal that looks the value call to make it two Grand Slams in a row following his US Open success.
In the women’s event, Serena Williams will take all of the beating and despite being odds-on at just 8/11 (Ladbrokes), she’s comfortably the best bet.
