Rory Mcllroy is a solid 6/1 market leader and has an obvious chance in this week’s Abu Dhabi Championship but for value Paul Casey, Irish Open Champion last year and course winner when landing this title in 2009, looks tremendous each-way value at 40/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral. Despite struggling on the greens last time out in Durban, he still finished 19th and showed enough to warrent a bet here.
Tommy Fleetwood had a chance to win in South Africa last week and bet365 have taken a huge chance in chalking him up at 80/1. Win or lose this week, that’s a value bet on a player that could be a suprise contender for the 2014 European Ryder Cup Team.
Martin Kaymer meanwhile, can never be discounted round this track and is worth a saver at a decent-looking 16/1.
Zach Johnson has made a solid start to 2014 and will be a popular bet at 14/1 in the Humana Challenge in California, being played as a pro-am over 3 courses.
Gary Woodland appeals to me at 33/1 having lost out in a crazy play-off when starting as a big outsider here three years ago and Jeff Overton could be the value outsider, Paddy Power quoting the best odds at 66/1 and offering a stand-out six places for each-way punters.
Of the two events this week Abu Dhabi is preferred but there will be plenty of great action coming up on both tours over the coming months with next weeks Qatar Masters set for a Wednesday start.
