Paul Ferguson has two selections from Gowran Park for us on Friday; Some Hawk in the 2.05 and Jennies Jewel at 3.45. Compare odds and bet.
Some decent domestic action under both codes today, but the pick of them comes from Gowran Park, where there are several interesting jumpers in action, particularly in the opening couple of maiden hurdles.
Smart Flat performer Chicago shaped well on his hurdles debut and sets a fair standard in the first, but Some Hawk (2:05) boasts some pretty solid bumper form and can make a winning debut for Thomas Mullins, Mark Walsh and JP McManus.
The son of Presenting finished runner-up to On Blueberry Hill (since joined Paul Nicholls for big money) on debut, before chasing home Very Wood in third at the Punchestown Festival. He probably wouldn’t want the ground too bad, but neither would Chicago and a chance it taken that he is wound up for this return.
Bishops Road is a winning pointer and bumper performer worth noting in the next, though this looks a warmer event with Rock The World, Devils Paintbrush and Some Article all having shown varying degrees of promise in the bumper division. This race should throw up several future winners, so pay close attention.
Later on the card Jennies Jewel (3:45) ought to be tough to beat in the mares hurdle over 2m4f, following a pipe opener on the level 13 days ago.
The six-year-old developed into a smart novice last season, winning at Naas in January, after which she chased home the likes of Glens Melody, Bright New Dawn and Annie Power, before finishing fourth to Morning Assembly in the Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown.
She handles testing ground (should the weather deteriorate) and, in receipt of 4lbs from her main market rival and in-form novice Cailin Annamh, it will be disappointing if she can’t make a winning start to her season.
