Paul Ferguson has two selections from Doncaster for us on Friday; Biographer in the 2.40 and Barley Mow at 3.50. Compare odds and bet.
With the ground coming right just at the right time, it could be the time for Biographer (2:40) to step up to the plate and land this afternoon’s Group 2 Doncaster Cup, with the step up in trip also likely to suit ideally.
David Lanigan’s four-year-old has yet to race on an easy surface this term and found the drop back to 1m5f against him last time. His form on good-to-soft or worse reads 21121 and, available at 11/2 and 5/1 early on Thursday evening, the Montjeu colt is given the chance to progress past last year’s first two, Times Up and High Jinx.
Later on the card, the Listed juvenile contest is a warm heat, with Be Ready showing sound form in second in a strong event on debut, while Voice Of A Leader was impressive in beating up lesser opposition at Sandown on his second start.
But, the Hannon’s clearly hold Barley Mow (3:50) in some regard and, though he ran in snatches on debut at Newbury, he eventually won a shade cosily at the line, with the front two pulling 4½ lengths clear of a subsequent winner. The Zamindar colt was trading at a best price 11/4 with Ladbrokes at the time of writing on Thursday evening.
Friday’s selections:
2:40 Doncaster: Biographer; 7/2 Stan James
3:50 Doncaster: Barley Mow; 5/2 Betfred
