Ladbrokes make Tiger Woods 10/1 to win the Open, the biggest price they have given him to win a major, this century.
Woods hasn’t won one of the big four tournaments for five years and it’s seven years since he last lifted the Claret Jug but he is still favourite at Muirfield albeit with a rare double-figure quote of 10/1.
Defending champion Ernie Els has attracted cash and is now 25/1 at Ladbrokes to retain his crown while US Open winner Justin Rose has been popular at 20/1 to make it back-to-back majors.
Rory McIlroy’s unconvincing form means that Ladbrokes have pushed him out to 25/1 to come out on top but the firm think it’s more likely, at 4/1, that he will miss the cut.
Ladbrokes also offer 33/1 and 25/1 respectively about Luke Donald or Lee Westwood landing their maiden major and if an Englishman wins the event, Ladbrokes will refund all losing outright online and mobile bets.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes told Betrescue: “Taking into account Tiger’s injury concerns and Major drought it’s not hard to see why he’s now quoted at double figures. You can never write Woods off, but punters aren’t falling over themselves to back him and that’s why were happy to take him on at such a big price.”
