The Christy McSweeney Memorial Novice Chase at Killarney looks the race of the day on Tuesday, where Jessie Harrington’s unbeaten Beachdale Lad takes on high-class hurdler Rebel Fitz (7:40).
The former has looked a smart recruit and will relish conditions, but giving 5lb to Michael Winters’ stable-star won’t be easy, especially as he has given the impression of late that he will improve once stepped up to this sort of trip.
Beaten on debut here in May, he went one better a fortnight later at Ballinrobe when the eight-year-old really warmed to his task and looked better the further he went.
Connections are reportedly considering a tilt at the Galway Plate with last year’s Galway Hurdle winner and, if that is to become a realistic target next month, he needs to be lowering the colours of Beachdale Lad here.
