England in to 2/5 for the Ashes

England have been cut to 2/5 by Ladbrokes to win the Ashes after Australian opener David Warner’s altercation with Joe Root.

Warner was dropped for his side’s ICC Champions Trophy clash with New Zealand on Wednesday as allegations emerged that he had physically attacked the England batsman in a Birmingham bar.

The ECB later confirmed that an incident had taken place and as a result Ladbrokes trimmed Alistair Cook’s men from 4/9 to 2/5 to retain the urn while Australia were pushed out to 7/2.

Warner could now be sent home and Ladbrokes now offer 8/1 that Mike Hussey will make a comeback to feature in any Ashes Test this summer.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes told Betrescue: “Australia are on the ropes and The Ashes haven’t even started yet. It goes without saying they need Warner in their side and we’re happy to take them on.”

Meanwhile, BetVictor have opened a market on who will score the most runs in the Ashes between Warner and Joe Root, should the former remain with the Baggy Greens squad and they go 10/11 the pair.

Speaking to Betrescue.com, BetVictor’s Charlie McCann said: “Warner hasn’t got it off the square yet this summer and it is possible that the Australian selectors will have had enough of his antics and send him home; as a result the match bet will be void if either player plays less than two Tests in the forthcoming five-test series. The incident will surely add fuel to the fires and what was sure to be an ultra-competitive series just went up another notch.”
