Sat 15.00: Sunderland are huge at 5/2 (Hills) to see off Everton in the Premier League, where West Ham, Swansea and Andy Carroll also stand out.
In their wildest dreams Sunderland supporters couldn’t have predicted a 3-0 victory at arch rivals Newcastle on Sunday, especially given the run of form they were on but inspired by the passion of new boss Paulo Di Canio, the Black Cats blew away their neighbours to boost their survival chances immeasurably.
That sensational result can set Sunderland on the path to safety and they can move further clear of danger by picking up a victory in Di Canio’s first home match in charge, against Everton.
Admittedly, the Toffees are in excellent form and have only lost five times all season (only the Manchester can boast fewer defeats) but draws at Tottenham and Arsenal means their top four hopes have all but gone and crucially David Moyes’s side looked particularly tired towards of their goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
They’re sure to be mentally fatigued too and they’re subsequently set to find it tough as they come up against a Sunderland team with an extra spring in their step. Take the hosts at 5/2 with William Hill to end an 18-match winless streak against the Toffees.
At Craven Cottage, Arsenal’s quest to finish in the top four might suffer a blow against Fulham, who have a decent recent record at home to the Gunners.
The Cottagers were well beaten by Chelsea in midweek but they can bounce back here and BetVictor’s 29/10 for them to grab a share of the spoils isn’t without appeal, especially after the visitors’ physical examination on Tuesday.
QPR are as good as relegated but at 13/10 via Betfred, they’re nevertheless decent value to turn up the heat on fellow strugglers Stoke at Loftus Road and staying at the foot of the table Wigan’s plight is 5/4 (bwin) to worsen at the hands of West Ham, for whom in-form Andy Carroll is a generous 11/2 courtesy of bet365 to break the deadlock.
Elsewhere, Ladbrokes rate Norwich at 3/4 to overcome rock bottom Reading, Newcastle’s dismal away record strengthens the case for a West Brom win (13/10, Betfred) as the pair face off at the Hawthorns and BetVictor mark an alluring 7/5 against Swansea ahead of their home clash with Southampton.
