Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Monday; Islandmagee in the Plumpton 1.10. Compare odds and bet.
Alan King and Robert Thornton will be glad that Plumpton got the green light after this morning’s inspection, as the pair team up with Midnight Sail in the feature contest, the SIS Live Handicap Chase.
The ten-year-old ran a sound race when runner-up to Easter Meteor last time and, on that piece of form, holds strong claims in this company. He has finished runner-up on his last four starts, however, and, while he has by no means looked un-genuine, it is slightly off-putting when he is favourite.
The pair really ought to strike in the opener too with Valdez, who is another with a leading form chance, but at the likely odds an each-way chance is taken on Islandmagee (1:10) who has shown promise in all four starts to date.
Evan Williams’ runner finished runner-up to Spirit Of Shankly on his final start in bumpers and he travelled really strongly on his hurdles debut at Stratford in May. The six-year-old was way too keen that day, however, and clearly needs to settle better to ensure he can see out his races.
But, he definitely has ability and, given that he has been off the track since, it is likely that there was a problem that has now been rectified. If that is the case, he is more than capable of going close in a race of this nature and, being by Heron Island, he should handle the soft ground.
