Phil Taylor is Ladbrokes’ 9/4 favourite to capture the 2014 PDC World Darts Championship after beating Michael van Gerwen in the 2013 final.
‘The Power’ was a couple of sets down to the talented Dutchman before defying in-play odds of 10/3 to roar back and beat the 23-year-old 7-4 at Alexandra Palace.
Taylor’s triumph was his 16th in total and Ladbrokes now offer 50/1 about him scooping the game’s top prize twenty times or more while they also make van Gerwen 5/2 second favourite to emerge victorious in next year’s tournament.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told Betrescue: “Taylor defied the in-play odds in legendary fashion. The bigger his odds got the more money we took and not for the first time he’s hit us for six.”
He added: “Turnover records were smashed during this tournament. Interest is at an all time high and win or lose we’re proud to be involved.”
