Sun 15.00: Dundee Utd are 20/21 (BetVictor) to beat St Mirren in the SPL but the Buddies, at 5/2 with Stan James, can nick a point.
Taking the clash at face value, with Dundee United on their own patch and odds-on at 20/21 with BetVictor to take all three points, many punters are likely to be thinking that the Terrors’ Tannadice clash with St Mirren has all of the hallmarks of a home banker.
The Buddies, bet365’s 3/1 outsiders, have after all, managed just the solitary away success this term and that came all the way back in August in the same city, against rock bottom Dundee. However, under closer scrutiny, the statistics don’t suggest the Arabs will coast this one and in fact shrewd punters will be looking to make it a very happy new year by tackling Stan James’ 5/2 posted against a stalemate.
Five of the last seven meetings between the pair have ended all square while Peter Houston’s charges have drawn six times in ten home matches and are without a success in front of their own supporters since the derby clash in August. Moreover, Danny Lennon’s boys have had a more solid look about them of late, losing just once in their last seven outings and they can come away with something from this one.
In Skybet’s handicaps, the Buddies are given a goal start at an enticing 10/11 and in a contest that’s set to see both teams find the net (8/11, Stan James), Ladbrokes’ 7/1 for the pair to play out a 1-1 draw looks a little on the high side.
Similarly, William Hill’s 15/2 posted against a Stephen Thompson opener also catches the eye. The Buddies front man has bagged three in his last two to take his SPL tally to nine for the campaign so he’s not without form, although as the hosts have a couple of danger men of their own leading the line, St Mirren’s veteran striker might be a better bet at 12/5 (Skybet) to get on the scoresheet at any stage.
