Live on Skysports 1: Fri 19.00: Phil Taylor is a worthy favourite at 2/1 (Coral) to win the PDC World Championship and ‘Barney’ can go well.
Eliminated from darts’ blue riband event, the PDC World Championship, at the second round stage last time out, Phil Taylor was considered in some quarters to a fading force but ‘the Power’ has enjoyed a fruitful 2012, landing three majors and also clinching victory in nine tour events so reports of his demise are surely a touch premature.
Indeed, he’s the favourite to come out on top at Alexandra Palace and fresh from his Players Championship triumph in Minehead, Taylor is difficult to oppose at 2/1 with Coral.
Rising star Michael Van Gerwen is a 5/1 shot at Sportingbet and given his form he has to be respected. The young Dutchman is also 11/2 via Skybet to meet Taylor in the final and that’s a showdown many pundits are hoping to see in North London while the same firm quote Van Gerwen at a tasty 11/4 in the betting without Taylor.
Next in the betting is defending champion Adrian Lewis, a 12/1 shot courtesy of Betfred, Boylesports post 16/1 against Suimon Whitlock and bet365 offer 18/1 about Scot Gary Anderson emerging victorious.
However, a livelier runner is arguably Raymond van Barneveld, at 20/1 (Skybet). Admittedly ‘Barney’ is in Taylor’s half of the draw but he has returned to form of late, winning the Grand Slam of Darts and performing like his old self, he has the ability to secure a sixth world title, especially if ‘the Power’ is upset again.
