Five to follow on Saturday

Alan Thomson, the former Racing Editor at the Daily Record, has five more selections for us on Saturday at Doncaster. View selections below.

SIR Henry Cecil bids to bring the curtain down on a remarkable Frankel-inspired season by scooping the Betfred November Handicap with unbeaten First Mohican on the final day of the flat turf season at Doncaster.

His colt has a very obvious chance stepping up to 12 furlongs for the first time and will have plenty of supporters trading around 7-2 favourite. At a bigger each-way price, Mark Johnston saddles a typically tough, improving three-year-old Montjeu filly in PARTY LINE (2.35). My selection is up 5lb for a tenacious course and distance success which came on the back of a fine effort in defeat at Ascot, chasing home the hugely impressive Fattsota. Voodoo Prince was back in fourth but wears first-time cheekpieces in an attempt to add some zip to his performance. Johnston has won the November Handicap twice with Quick Ransom (1993) and Yavana’s Pace (1998) and is overdue another visit to the winner’s circle in this big-betting handicap.

It’s an early start for punters, with two divisions of the 7f apprentices’ handicap to kick off proceedings. There is an interesting runner in the opener, CASELA PARK (11.50), having his first start for David O’Meara. Casela Park was the subject of a controversial non-trier inquiry back in August, 2010 at Newcastle and has since spent a long spell in the wilderness back in his native Ireland. The horse is well-handicapped on his old form and is worth a careful look in the betting. Pashan Garh ran a cracker at Newmarket last Saturday when going down narrowly to Sam Nombulist and should go well under Charles Bishop.

In the second division, CHOOKIE ROYALE (12.20) has prospects of continuing the fine form of trainer Keith Dalgleish, having scored over course and distance in August. His 5lb higher mark here is offset by Jason Hart’s claim. In-form She’s A Character, dropping to seven furlongs for the first time in more than two years, and free-running Fame Again (twice a winner at Wolverhampton in recent weeks), are others to consider.

At shorter odds, SAJJHAA (2.00) will be hard to beat in the Listed 1m 2f event. The Godolphin mare hasn’t been seen since locking horns with Izzi Top in a Group 2 at York’s Dante fixture back in May but goes well fresh.

MYBOYALFIE (3.45) boasts eyecatching 113211 form figures since June and arrives here at the top of his game after romping home at Nottingham 10 days ago. John Jenkins’ five-year-old appreciates cut in the ground, so any rain would be a bonus.
