Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Friday; Mr Watson in the 1pm at Wetherby. Compare odds and bet.
Jonjo O’Neill boasts a fine strike-rate with his hurdlers at Wetherby in the past five seasons, with 41% of his runners proving successful (7 winners from 17 runners) and he saddles just one runner at the track this afternoon, expensive purchase Mr Watson (1:00) in the opening novices’ hurdle.
A point-to-point winner at the second time of asking, the five-year-old made his rules debut in the valuable champion point-to-point bumper at Fairyhouse in April, where he stayed on in taking fashion to take third.
The front two, Rogue Angel and Balnaslow, have already won over hurdles in Ireland and the son of Gold Well has since been snapped up by his current connections for no less than £215,000.
This is by no means an easy starting point, but connections will surely be hoping he can start to repay that price tag immediately under Tony McCoy, who rattled up another century yesterday aboard exciting juvenile Vasco Du Ronceray.
Elsewhere on the card Paul Nicholls unleashes Enghien winner Sametegal in the Listed juvenile contest. I watched a video of his French success last night and it was a taking performance, so he is one to pay close attention to, while unbeaten Up To Something should relish the step up to 2m4f in the opening novice hurdle at Uttoxeter.
Again, this is a competitive contest, however, so he is best watched under a penalty.
