Coral make Sri Lanka their 9-4 favourites to win the Twenty20 World Cup after the hosts overcame England by 19-runs to progress through to the semi-finals.
Chasing 170 runs for victory, the defending champions were in trouble from the off following a devastating spell of bowling from Lasith Malinga. The Sri Lanka opener’s 5 for 31 was the best ever figures recorded by a Sri Lankan in the shorter format of the game. The 29-year-old is now only two wickets behind the tournament’s current leading wicket taker, Shane Watson. It’s 3-1 for Malinga to finish as the tournament’s top bowler, with Watson the 11-8 favourite.
“Sri Lanka fully deserved to progress through to the semi-finals and in Malinga they have a bowler who could rip through any top order”, Coral’s Tim Reynolds told betrescue.com
West Indies had to battle through a ‘Super Over’ to help secure their progression in the tournament. Darren Sammy’s men are now 3-1 to be crowned World Twenty20 champions.
