Live on ITV1: Tue 20.00: BetVictor’s 2/5 favourites England should edge out Ukraine in the pair’s World Cup qualifier at Wembley.
England boss Roy Hodgson couldn’t have asked for or indeed anticipated a more emphatic victory in his side’s opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova. Expecting a tight affair in Chisinau, Hodgson presided over a crushing 5-0 triumph and that result is the ideal preparation for what, on paper, will be a much tougher assignment against Ukraine at Wembley.
Another 5-0 success isn’t realistic, even though the clash it at Wembley, hence Stan James’ quote of 50/1 but the Three Lions are again considered strong favourites, at 2/5 courtesy of BetVictor.
Admittedly, the absence of John Terry is a blow for the hosts, however, on home soil England should still have enough to get the better of a team they saw off 1-0 in Euro 2012 and Hodgson’s charges look set to shade it. Ladbrokes make them 11/4 to come out on top by one and more specifically, it’s 11/2 (William Hill) for the Three Lions to again grab the only goal of the game.
Frank Lampard’s double helped England on their way to that tremendous victory in the Zimbru Stadium and the Chelsea man will inevitably be well backed at 13/2 with bet365 to fire the opener in this one. Nevertheless, Jermain Defoe has slotted in his last two international appearances and at 9/2 (Stan James) he’s the man to follow in the first scorer betting.
Alternatively, the Spurs marksman is a 5/4 chance at BetVictor to notch at any stage in proceedings.
Recommended Bets:
England to win by one – 11/4 (Ladbrokes)
Jermain Defoe to score first – 9/2 (Stan James)
