The result was a real fillip for Graham Westley’s troops, who look well placed to build on that impressive victory by securing a maximum haul at Bury.
The Shakers lost manager Richie Barker on the eve of the season and look a little sorry for themselves having failed to win this term under caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff. North End simply look too big at 6/4 with BetVictor then but punters fancying a bit more of a Gigg Lane gamble might want to consider backing Preston new boy Stuart Beavon to get on the scoresheet.
The former Wycombe front man, proven at this level, switched to Deepdale on deadline day and marked his debut with a goal against Swindon so he’s great value at 6/1 courtesy of Skybet to break the deadlock. Alternatively, Paddy Power price the 28-year-old at 15/8 to notch at any stage.
Elsewhere in the division, Swindon can bounce back from their Preston loss by getting the better of struggling Leyton Orient, a result Blue Square chalk up at 8/15 and Notts County look a touch overpriced at 11/10 (William Hill) ahead of their clash with Shrewsbury.
