Pile Into This Pair Today

Paul Ferguson has two selections today; Sword Of Destiny (5.10 Ball) and Shestheman (8.35 Newb). Compare odds and bet.

Newbury stages a really interesting fillies’ handicap this evening where a couple of unexposed sorts in Khione and Selfsame set the market.

The former beat a subsequent 10 length winner at Nottingham last time and appeals as the type to improve for a step up in trip, a comment that also applies to the latter. She won in taking fashion at Goodwood on debut and hasn’t been harshly treated by the handicapper.

It wouldn’t be at all surprising to see either rate a fair bit higher later in the season, but at the prices they are taken on this evening with the more experienced Shestheman (8:35) who appeals as a decent each-way bet in an 8-runner contest.

David Lanigan’s Manduro filly chased home Pretty Polly winner Kailani on debut before scoring on the all-weather. She made her handicap debut off this mark at Salisbury last time and shaped with plenty of promise in fourth.

She remained an Oaks entry at the time of that run so is clearly well regarded and she looks more than capable of winning off her current mark. Though this race looks a stronger contest, her experience could count for plenty and she was available at 8/1 overnight.

Over in Ireland Sword Of Destiny (5:10) looks worth another chance in the opening 1m6f maiden, despite the fact that Willie Mullins’s smart mare Ceol Rua will be well fancied given the form of the stable.

I selected the five-year-old in this column at Tramore on Derby day when he ran as though he needed the run, having been held up well off the pace early on. A bumper winner last August, the son of Montjeu remains an interesting prospect and should strip fitter for that recent run.

Tuesday’s selections:
5:10 Ballinrobe Sword Of Destiny
8:35 Newbury Shestheman
