Camelot, winner of the English 2000 Guineas and Derby, could bid for a 3rd Classic win of 2012 as he was declared for the Irish Derby.
StanJames.com have just 1/4 about Aidan O’Brien’s charge while Imperial Monarch, a stablemate, is next in the betting at 8/1.
Stan James’s Rory Jiwani said, “With doubts over a few of the entries, we’re going each-way one-quarter odds two places unless there are eight or more runners when we’ll pay one-fifth of the odds.
“After the Ballydoyle pair, Jim Bolger relies on Derrinstown Trial winner Light Heavy with Dewhurst victor Parish Hall withdrawn having also missed the Irish 2000 Guineas. Light Heavy is 12/1, as is Dermot Weld’s Speaking Of Which who looked a horse to follow when he romped away with the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh last month. John Oxx’s pair Born To Sea and Akeed Mofeed are 14/1 and 16/1 respectively and it’s 20/1 bar.”
Taking place earlier on Saturday is the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle for which 45 entries were announced today.
Jiwani added, “We make StanJames Chester Cup hero Ile De Re and Sir Mark Prescott’s Motivado 9/1 joint-favourites at this stage with Deauville Flyer and Gulf Of Naples 12/1 shots. The latter ran a cracker to finish fourth in the Ascot Gold Cup and trainer Mark Johnston says he will not decide until later in the week whether the four-year-old will run on Saturday. Top weight Mount Athos is 14/1 with last year’s winner Tominator a 16/1 chance.”
