Camelot is evens with Coral to land the Derby at Epsom after a strong challenger failed to emerge from the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.
The 2000 Guineas winner is way out in front in the betting for the Classic ahead of Bonfire and Madaean, at 10/1 and 14/1 respectively but both could attempt to enhance their claims in the Dante Stakes at York.
“Camelot has been the worst result in our Derby book since his runaway Racing Post Trophy win last October,” Coral’s David Stevens told Betrescue, “and after the trials at Chester, Lingfield and Leopardstown, we have seen nothing so far to give us hope of getting the favourite beat at Epsom next month.”
By contrast, the Oaks looks wide open. Vow was cut to 5/1 by Coral after an impressive win at Lingfield with only Maybe (3/1) and Kissed (7/2) currently coming in shorter but as Aidan O’Brien has yet to finalise his team for the race, Vow might end up as the jolly come race day.
