The opening Avon Caravan Park Novices’ Hurdle at Stratford this afternoon looks a decent little contest, with the 120-rated High Storm arriving here on the back of his first success over hurdles and Dance Tempo is on a retrieval mission having flopped badly on his second start at Huntingdon in January.
Prior to that Kim Bailey’s five-year-old made a really pleasing debut when third behind Broadbackbob and Cinders And Ashes at Ascot in November and a reproduction of that form would be good enough here.
However, at the likely prices, a chance is taken on Islandmagee (2:20) who ran really well in a bumper here in March.
The selection cost current connections £50,000 after he finished third in a bumper at last year’s Punchestown Festival and, after an average first start for Evan Williams at Bangor in December, he stepped forward massively last time.
Always travelling strongly, he tracked Spirit Of Shankly in to the straight and, though he didn’t have the speed to go with the impressive winner, it was a most pleasing run.
