Live on Skysports 2: Sat 17.20: BetVictor’s 17/5 outsiders Stevenage can upset Sheffield United in League One and Carlisle also appeal.
While it could simply be a coincidence it’s hard to not think that Sheffield United’s failure to score at MK Dons last weekend had something to do with the absence of top scorer Ched Evans.
Admittedly, the Dons have a decent defensive record at stadium:mk and might well have kept a clean sheet even if Evans had featured but the Blades created very little without their talismanic striker so boss Danny Wilson will be a worried man with just two games remaining and Sheffield Wednesday pushing his team all the way in the battle for automatic promotion.
Nevertheless, United remain strong favourites at 10/11 with William Hill to pick up a crucial three points in their penultimate match, against Stevenage, and the hosts’ impressive home record would seem to justify those odds, but Borough have won three in a row to move into the play-off places and there’s a chance that the in-form visitors could frustrate Sheffield United in this one.
Boylesports quote them at 13/5 to secure a share of the spoils at Bramall Lane, where it’s 12/1 via Skybet to finish goalless but Gary Smith’s men have already beaten the Blades once this term and with Wilson’s men potentially feeling the pressure, Stevenage are worth considering at 17/5 (BetVictor) to snare all three points.
Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday could also see their promotion bid falter at bet365’s 3/1 underdogs Brentford, who look hugely overpriced while Carlisle can do their bit as they look to gatecrash the top six and they’re great value at 3/4 courtesy of William Hill to see off a virtually relegated Exeter.
