Paul Ferguson has another selection for us today; Alan King’s Habbie Simpson in the 14:40 at Fontwell. Compare odds and bet
Alan King boasts a fine strike-rate at Fontwell in recent seasons and the in-form trainer looks to have solid claims in the opening two contests at the track this afternoon.
Firstly, he saddles Medinas in the opening novice hurdle and the five-year-old was impressive when scoring for this column at Hereford a month ago. He’s yet to prove he handles quicker ground, however, so he is best watched today in a decent little event.
The second King runner on the card is Habbie Simpson (2:40) who returns from more than three months off in the PWW Ice Cream Supplies Novices’ Chase.
The seven-year-old remains a maiden after three starts over fences, but he was an unfortunate loser last time when grabbed late on by Prince Of Pirates who scored again at Leicester (dead-heated) next time.
A mistake late on possibly cost him that day and, having unseated and fallen on his first two starts, jumping has clearly been somewhat of an issue. But, he produced a solid enough round of fencing last time and a clear round should be good enough today judged on his hurdles form.
Ninth in last season’s Neptune Investment, his best two efforts came when twice third to Bobs Worth at Cheltenham.
He was four lengths off the dual Festival winner on the first occasion and Champion Hurdler Rock On Ruby split the pair when they clashed again on 2011 trials day.
Tuesday’s selection:
2:40 Fontwell Habbie Simpson
