Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Monday; Allee Garde in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse at 16:50. Compare odds and bet
It’s Irish Grand National Day at Fairyhouse and, as ever, the feature contest looks a hugely competitive affair with 30 runners going to post.
National Hunt Chase third Four Commanders is very much respected, especially if the ground remains good, but the each-way selection goes to Allee Garde (4:50) who fell in that same contest and had earlier finished just in front of Four Commanders when third at Navan in January.
Prior to that he won over 2m4f at Clonmel before running his best race over fences to date when third to Last Instalment at Leopardstown in Grade 1 company over Christmas. He was just a neck of RSA second First Lieutenant that day and, with that effort coming on good ground, he appealed as the type to improve for spring ground.
The seven-year-old got rid of Patrick Mullins halfway round at Cheltenham, but is reunited with Ruby Walsh today and, as long as the fall hasn’t knocked his confidence too much, he looks capable of a big run at 14/1 with Stan James paying 5 places (please check the best morning line odds with those firms offering guaranteed odds).
Davy Russell’s mount Four Commanders is also capable of going close for the novices and I wouldn’t put anyone off a small saver on Mouse Morris’s charge.
Later on the card, be sure to pay close attention to the concluding bumper. Don Cossack has looked a high-class prospect to date, but he faces an exciting opponent in the shape of Sword Of Honour, whilst the mare Elsie also caught the eye when second to Champion Bumper winner Champagne Fever on debut.
Monday’s selection:
4:50 Fairyhouse: Allee Garde (each-way 14/1 Stan James)
