Ibrox is expected to erupt in an emotional display of support when Rangers take to the pitch against Kilmarnock tomorrow – little wonder that William Hill price the ‘Gers at 4/11 to overhaul a side that has managed just one away win all season.
Killie, offered at 10/1 by Stan James to cause an almighty upset and win, are more likely to play the role of sacrificial lambs and punters searching for value may fancy Boylesports’ 16/5 odds posted in favour of Rangers enjoying a three goal margin of victory. Alternatively, Paddy Power’s even money for Ally McCoist’s men to be in front at the end of both halves looks one of the day’s most enticing wagers.
Meanwhile, Motherwell and Hearts will be mindful that a second place SPL finish is no longer out of the question and, as both still have to face Rangers, their match at Fir Park assumes even greater importance. Motherwell start as bet365’s 8/5 favourites, although their recent home record against the Jambos is hardly convincing – they’ve won four and lost five of their last nine league clashes.
Hearts, buoyed by a thrilling extra time Cup win at St Johnstone in midweek, arrive as BetVictor’s 19/10 underdogs, despite beating Motherwell 2-0 as recently as Christmas Eve. But as they’ve managed only two away victories (and just 8 goals) in 13 away fixtures this term, a draw, the outcome that neither side wants, looks most likely. It’s priced at 23/10 by Betfred, while a goalless draw is offered at 8/1 by Ladbrokes and a 1-0 away victory is rated a 17/2 shot by Blue Square.
Although four of the last five league meetings between Dunfermline and Inverness have ended in stalemate, Partybets’ 5/4 odds posted about a Thistle win appear worthy of further consideration. Bottom club Dunfermline are still without a home victory and lost 3-1 to tomorrow’s opponents in a cup replay at East End Park only last month . Skybet’s 15/2 for Inverness to win 1-0 has, not surprisingly, attracted plenty of support.
Elsewhere, Dundee United, Blue Square’s 4/5 favourites, should have little difficulty overcoming St Mirren’s challenge; they’re 13/2 at Skybet to register a 1-0 win and 15/2 (Partybets) to record a 2-0 victory.
Aberdeen, with one defeat in their last 13 outings, open as Boylesports’ 13/10 favourites to defeat St Johnstone (5/2, BetVictor.com) at Pittodrie.
However, considering the Dons’ recent goalscoring form – they’ve scored six and conceded four in their last eight matches – Paddy Power’s 8/1 for the match to finish goalless cannot be discounted. Not surprisingly, as St Johnstone have kept ten clean sheets this season, Betfred’s 9/4 for them to prevent their hosts from scoring has proven popular.
Finally, at Easter Road on Sunday, Celtic (4/11, Stan James) are expected to cruise to victory against a side that has recorded just a single home league success this term. Hibs start as Ladbrokes’ 17/2 underdogs, but the overwhelming weight of punters’ cash has been in support of an away win. Here, William Hill’s 11/10 for Celtic to win when kicking off with a one goal deficit has obvious appeal, while bet365’s 20/21 for the Glaswegian giants to win without conceding has also captured backers’ attention.
