Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Sunday, Trozulon (1/1), Market Rasen 1:30 and Caolaneoin (11/8), Fairyhouse 2:55 Compare odds.
Despite having been off the track for more than a year Trozulon (1:30) is fancied to make a winning debut over hurdles in the opening novices’ contest at Market Rasen on Sunday.
Nicky Henderson’s five-year-old won a French bumper (AQPS race) before joining current connections, for whom he made a very pleasing debut when third in a well contested junior bumper at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day last year.
Smart Flat performer and now stable-mate Keys won the race from Cinders And Ashes (completed a hat-trick at Haydock yesterday) with subsequent hurdles winners It’s A Gimme, Cousin Khee and Zama Zama filling the next three places.
David Bass’s mount stayed on strongly that day over 1m6½f indicating that today’s trip shouldn’t be an issue and he was trading at 11/10 on Betfair on Saturday evening.
Over in Ireland classy bumper performer Caolaneoin (2:55) can get off the mark over timber at the second time of asking under Paul Townend at Fairyhouse.
Runner-up to the ill-fated Lovethehigherlaw on debut a year ago, he went on to win at Leopardstown before again finishing behind Lovethehigherlaw in the Grade 1 at Punchestown.
The son of King’s Theatre made a pleasing debut over hurdles at this track just 11 days ago when runner-up to Mickelson and, as he’d been off for 8 months and was keen early on, he can be expected to have come on plenty for that return.
Sunday’s selections:
1:30 Market Rasen Trozulon
2:55 Fairyhouse Caolaneoin
