Paul Ferguson has three selections on Saturday, two from Newbury; Master Fiddle and Coup Royale and Malt Master at Newcastle. Compare odds.
It’s Hennessy Day at Newbury and surprisingly Nicky Henderson is without a runner in the big race, though the in form trainer can still enjoy success at his local track courtesy of MASTER FIDDLE (1:30) in the novices’ handicap chase.
A useful hurdler, the six-year-old has always had the look of a chaser and begins live over fences on a reasonable mark of 122. He’s had a wind operation over the summer and the 5/1 that Ladbrokes offered on Friday evening was more than fair.
AP McCoy misses Newbury as he’s up at Newcastle to ride Binocular in the ‘Fighting Fifth’ but Henderson also sends MALT MASTER (2:55) on the long journey north and he has found his four-year-old a nice opportunity.
A bumper winner at Doncaster in February, the son of Milan should be tough to beat and he opened up at Evens with Bet365 this morning.
Back to Newbury and the concluding contest in which COUP ROYALE (3:45) is fancied to score for Colin Tizzard, who has taken the contest with Mount Oscar for the past two years.
The seven-year-old was hugely impressive when winning a weak race at Kempton in February and he still looks a right end of the weights.
Like Master Fiddle, he is also available at 5/1 so the option is there to back either each-way to 1/4 odds.
Saturday’s selections:
1:35 Newbury – Master Fiddle
2:55 Newcastle – Malt Master
3:45 Newbury – Coup Royale
