Fergie’s Wednesday racing tips

Paul Ferguson has three selections for us on Wednesday; Kap Ouest in the 12.50, Tripoli Flyer 1.20 and Let It Rain 1.50 all at Chepstow. | Free Bets |

Chepstow’s 2m maiden hurdle has been split into two divisions and Champion Bumper eighth Royal Infantry is sure to be popular in the first division. He certainly sets the standard but Kap Ouest (12:50) ran well when third in a bumper here last autumn and again when beaten by the now-140-rated Valgrand (won both starts since) in a maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter in May (3rd also ran quite well recently). Harry Fry seems to have his horses quite forward and the hope is that this five-year-old is available at an each-way price.

Division two looks much stronger, with Tripoli Flyer (1:20) and Jurancon going head-to-head. The latter has the advantage of having had a run already this season and is a course winner, successful in a bumper here 11 months ago. He looks sure to go well for David Pipe and Jack Tudor but as on debut, it could just be that he bumps into a slightly speedier sort in the shape of Tripoli Flyer, who beat two subsequent winners in an all-weather bumper, before finishing runner-up in the Grade 2 at Aintree, where he travelled like the best horse throughout. He might just have the superior turn of foot in what should be a race worth following.

In the extended 2m3f maiden, the exciting mare Let It Rain (1:50) should be difficult to beat in receipt of a 7lbs sex-allowance. Dan Skelton’s five-year-old was unbeaten in two bumpers and had impressive hurdles winner Celtic Dino back in third when last seen at Ascot. Got A Dream (7th in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree) and French Ship (runner-up here on hurdles debut recently) should ensure that she doesn’t get things all her own way, but she looked a high-class prospect last winter and it will be disappointing if she can’t maintain her 100% record, especially as the Skelton team are in such fine form at present.

Wednesday’s selections:
12:50 Chepstow – Kap Ouest; 10/3 Bet365
1:20 Chepstow – Tripoli Flyer; 11/10 William Hill
1:50 Chepstow – Let It Rain; 8/11 Betfred
