Paul Nicholls has his horses in fine form at the start of the new jumps season and PIC D’ORHY (15:56) is taken to land the novices’ chase at Market Rasen, a race which the stable won in both 2017 (Capitaine) and 2018 (Dynamite Dollars).
Nicholls also saddled subsequent Arkle winner Azertyuiop to win this race back in 2002, and he will be hoping that his Betfair Hurdle winner develops into a contender for the festival himself come next spring. Just about the best of these over hurdles, the five-year-old remains lightly-raced and has the build for fences. He did unseat his rider on his sole chase start in France (also took a similar fall when running at Auteuil last November), but he is sure to have been well schooled, and he can strike under Harry Cobden.
