Five to follow on Saturday

NAHAARR (3.40) can put a disappointing Goodwood effort behind him by scooping the QTS Ayr Gold Cup.

The William Haggas-trained sprinter was installed a warm favourite to land the Stewards’ Cup on the back of a sizzling Newbury victory and Nahaarr can redeem his reputation now returned to a flat track.

Mr Lupton shoulders a penalty for his Curragh victory last weekend and arrives in better form than last year when trailing well down the pack. Gulliver, third last year, is up 7lb in the ratings, while eighth home Arecibo is equipped with eye-shields for the first time. Arecibo ran fourth to Stone Of Destiny in last Saturday’s Portland Handicap at Doncaster and keeps threatening to land a plum prize.

Haggas has another leading light in ADDEYBB (1.55), probable favourite to land a hot renewal of the Doonside Cup. The six-year-old has been kept under wraps since chasing home Lord North at Royal Ascot, finishing ahead of smart Barney Roy and Japan. He is at his very best with some juice underfoot. Fox Chairman, Lord Glitters and San Donato are a talented trio capable of serving it up to Addeybb in receipt of 7lb.

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy takes the reins on KING’S LYNN (2.30) in the QTS Ayr Silver Cup. The Queen’s three-year-old is very lightly raced and meets a posse of seasoned sprinters. However, he looks up to the task after locking horns with speedball Starman at Doncaster, especially if stall six on the far side proves an advantage.

David O’Meara landed the mile handicap on this card 12 months ago and relies on SHELIR (4.15), impressive when pulling more than two lengths clear of Godolphin’s Ghaly at Thirsk.

Brunch has won three of his four starts and is sure to be well supported, despite meeting older rivals for the first time. Johan finished last behind Brunch at York but something may have been amiss. The Haggas-trained colt is probably better judged on his fourth to Tsar at Ascot.

DESERT ENCOUNTER (2.50) bagged the Group 3 Legacy Cup at Newbury last year under a penalty but now meets his three rivals on level terms. Soft ground was no good to Desert Encounter when third to Le Don De Vie at Windsor but today’s terrain is ideal. Extra Elusive has been in terrific form for Roger Charlton and Hollie Doyle, and must go close.

Mark Johnston’s Elarqam bids to get back on track following two disappointing efforts at Royal Ascot and York. Gifts Of Gold is smart but this is a tougher test than usual.
